Today We Will Rejoice and Be Glad/Psalm 118:24

The Christian family often awakes each morning understanding “This is the day that the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it”. On new years eve, 2019 in Wuhan China after a cluster of severe pneumonia cases, a particular virus called Covid-19 emerged. On new years day the world awakened, and that virus was beginning to spread globally. From that time until now, has our message to God changed? Are we still proclaiming to God that “ This is the day that the Lord has made, we will be glad and rejoice in it”?

Our Father throughout His Word not only warns us but gives what we need to assist us as we go through any difficult and painful experiences. We have read His Word, heard them in Bible studies, sermons, and confessed them boldly while proclaiming our allegiance to His Word. But that was before Covid-19; what is happening and what are we saying now? “I can’t stand this!”, “I’m afraid!”. Some are saying to the world, “Don’t worry world, it will be over soon”, “we will be back together again!”. Is this the thought of God’s Church, to join in and be like the world’s spirit of distress and worry? Do we have the mindset We all can get back to what we knew as normal? No, our thoughts are to be according to Psalm 34:19, Many are the afflictions of the righteous; but the Lord delivereth him out of them all”.

SO… “LET THE REDEEMED OF THE Lord say so, whom He hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy”. Psalm 107:2. What is the affliction and who is the enemy that we are faced with today? Any form of virus, such as Covid-19, fear, loss of employment, lack of needs being met, any and all the works of the devil.

Have we forgotten what God has said …”for this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil”? 1 John 3:8. These are destroyed works, viruses, diseases, and any disorders that can cause the dysfunction of mankind. We must determine to have the mind of Christ and say today and every day, “This is the day that the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.
